SEL Strategies in the Choral Music Classroom

Sarah Kavanagh

Sarah Kavanagh is the Director of Choirs at North Montgomery High School in Crawfordsville as well as the Director of Music at Grace Lutheran Church in Lafayette. She has experience teaching music at the primary, intermediate, middle school, and high school levels. Mrs. Kavanagh’s students have had success at state, regional, and national festivals. She serves ICDA as District III Representative as well as Area 3B Chairperson for High School All-State Choir.

Mrs. Kavanagh was recently acknowledged by her school district for her exceptional utilization of brain aligned strategies in her classroom. In 2017, she hosted internationally known composer, Jim Papoulis, for a three-day songwriting workshop and looks forward to hosting a virtual workshop with him this August. Mrs. Kavanagh was recently approved for a grant to provide a song writing workshop with Mr. Papoulis for all three high schools in Montgomery County. Her favorite accomplishments as a choral director have been watching singers build community, continue to sing after high school, and use music as a vehicle to living life to the fullest.
